CNT awarded new NSF REU grant

The Center for Neurotechnology has been awarded a new National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) award. This REU Site award will support the training of 10 students for 10 weeks each summer from 2022 to 2024. These undergraduate researchers, recruited from around the country, will work in CNT-associated laboratories to gain valuable experience in the fields of neural engineering and neuroscience.

REU students will work in labs to investigate concepts and devices used to assist, understand, and interact with neural systems. Because neural engineering is an interdisciplinary topic, students will be assigned to laboratories in several departments including Bioengineering, Biology, Physiology and Biophysics, Psychology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Computer Sciences and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. In addition to laboratory work, students will participate in a communications course, attend workshops to improve their presentation and writing skills, and join seminars related to neuroethics and opportunities in industry. At the conclusion of the summer program, REU students will present their work at a research symposium at the University of Washington.

A group of students has already been selected to participate in the 2022 summer REU program. Recruitment of students for the 2023 REU program will start in November 2022. More information about the CNT REU program is available on the CNT web site.
